Jim Moose to Receive ELS 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award

James G. Moose

Remy Moose Manley LLP is proud to announce that James G. Moose has been selected to receive the California Lawyers Association Environmental Law Section’s 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing an exceptional career devoted to California environmental law.

Jim has practiced environmental law for more than 40 years and is widely regarded as one of California’s leading authorities on the California Environmental Quality Act. Over the course of his career, he has represented public agencies, private developers, environmental organizations, and individuals in matters that have helped define and develop California environmental law. His work has resulted in numerous published appellate decisions addressing CEQA and related environmental issues.

His contributions to the profession extend far beyond his client work. For two decades, Jim was a principal author of the Guide to the California Environmental Quality Act, an influential CEQA treatise cited by California appellate courts and the California Supreme Court. He also devoted more than 30 years to teaching CEQA and environmental law through UC Davis Extension and the Association of Environmental Professionals, and served for more than 15 years on the Advisory Board of the Center for Law, Energy, and the Environment at UC Berkeley School of Law.

These accomplishments tell only part of Jim’s story. Within the firm and throughout the environmental law community, Jim is known as a trusted colleague and a generous mentor. He always makes time to talk through a difficult legal question, share the benefit of his experience, and help younger attorneys develop their own judgment and confidence. His influence can be seen not just in the cases he has litigated and the law he has helped shape, but in the many lawyers he has taught and mentored throughout his career.

We are delighted to see Jim’s extraordinary career recognized with this honor and are exceptionally proud to call him our colleague.

Congratulations, Jim!
